To replenish blood stores and revitalise energy especially after a surgery, the Chinese believe in double boiling chicken soup. Not only is it nutritious, it's also immensely delicious. And when you know that all your mother's tender loving care is one of the ingredients, it is the silver lining in the cloud, the sole spark that eases the trauma of a surgery.
Determined to help boost my energy levels and overcome my fatigue, my 80-year-old 心肝宝贝 has been making trips to the wet market to procure the free range chicken, lovingly double boil the chicken soup and then braving the hot sun to deliver it to me. With this kind of postoperative care rendered, I should be bouncing back on my feet in no time.

Despite starting on calcium supplements, I have noticed slight numbness over my left toes as well as under my chin. Apparently, the latter is normal and will get better over time. It is hoped that the former is temporary (transient hypocalcemia) as it is indicated that up to 50% of patients who underwent a total thyroidectomy will experience hypocalcemia. This is because the parathyroid glands do not function properly immediately. Aided by calcium supplements, this condition will resolve within a few days or weeks. It is only considered as permanent if it doesn't resolve within 6 months.
