Day 02 Post-Op

 03 April 2021

Today's the 2nd day after my total thyroidectomy, gone is my butterfly. Praise the Lord! My surgery went exceedingly well and my recovery has been swift. The surgeon was pleased to note minimal surgical drainage so she had me discharged yesterday, earlier than scheduled. Oh, it felt so good to be able to return home, get cleaned under a good shower, luxuriate in my comfortable bed and be pampered like a Princess by hubby dearest!

Today's also my 2nd day taking Levothyroxine 100mcg, the thyroid replacement hormone which I am now without. It is essential for maintaining my mental and physical activity. This is also partially why I am starting this blog. There are a lot of things I want to self-monitor as life without my butterfly comes with a host of side effects, which I am very determined to overcome and reign over.

What the Internet recommends and what the pharmacist advises may differ. I have just learned that I may have done two things wrongly today. So I shall adjust accordingly in future. The Internet recommends taking Levothyroxine with a full glass of water and only to take my calcium supplements 4 hours after.

Generally, I feel fine. Still slightly woozy, zero pain over my incision, slight pain when swallowing food and water, some phelgm which I have not managed to expel, no neck pain, able to sleep like a log, succeeded in evacuating my bowels this morning. Most importantly, there has been no damage to my voice box, praise the Lord! My voice is still weak and I can't talk for long. Apart from that, all is good!

Besides being spoilt by Derrick, mummy dearest also pampered me with nutritious chicken soup in the hope of helping me regain my vitality. My good friend, Angeline, paid me a visit after work today with fruits and Nyonya kuih. My cousin (and also my physician) Yee Yan checked on me  at the hospital on the evening after my surgery and kindly got me a bottle of water as I had just been told I could start drinking clear fluids. Cousin Kar Mun, who is like an elder brother to me, braved the rain to visit me yesterday prior to my discharge and thoroughly read through my case notes. Bless these kind souls, as well as the many others who showed their care and concern in other ways. I am indeed blessed!
